Majid Mostafavi; Deputy for Development and Technology of Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company (SSMIC):SSMIC Wind Power Plant, a Model of Clean Energy and Moving on the Path of Sustainable Development

According to the Public Relations report, Majid Mostafavi, Deputy for Development and Technology of Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company (SSMIC), in an interview with the Public Relations reporter, provided explanations regarding the 200 MW power plant project.

How and on what basis was the nominal capacity of the Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company (SSMIC) wind power plant determined?

The nominal capacity of this power plant has been defined as 200 MW of wind electricity, the determination of which has been made based on two main axes: technical-network considerations and implementation limitations. First, based on information received from the Khorasan Network Dispatching Center, the capacity of 200 MW was evaluated as the best option for resolving the “network weak point” issue and also for the possibility of stable power injection into the 400 kV transmission network. Second, from the perspective of land limitations allocated by the Lands Affairs Unit of the Agricultural Jihad Organization (approximately 100 one-hectare plots) and also in accordance with domestic manufacturing capability and available samples of wind turbines in the country, the capacity of 200 MW is considered the maximum operational and constructible capacity at this site.

What type of turbines have been selected for this wind power plant, and what is the reason for this selection?

The selection of turbines has been carried out based on the analysis of wind data obtained from two 100-meter anemometry masts. The study results indicate that wind turbines with a capacity exceeding 5 MW and in the designated wind class are favorable options for this project. It is necessary to mention that the analyzed data pertains to the low-wind season of the year, and with the completion of wind monitoring during the high-wind seasons, further optimization in the selection of the turbine class will be possible. However, considering the velocity pattern, turbulence, and wind characteristics of the region, in the current situation, the turbine class with a capacity higher than 5 MW has been determined, which has been identified as the best technical and operational option.

On what basis has the annual electricity production amount of this power plant been estimated?

Based on energy simulation calculations and wind analysis, and taking into account the nominal capacity of 200 MW, the annual electricity production of the power plant is approximately 734 gigawatt-hours, which is a significant figure for a wind power plant on an industrial scale in the country.
